In which I like and dislike two book covers...

Once again, the people at Berkely/ NAL have come up with a great cover for the newest book of one of my favorite authors. Jen Lancaster's next book will be out in May, and Pretty in Plaid is apparently a prequel to Bitter is a New Black.

On the other hand, here's the cover of Silent on the Moor, by Deanna Raybourn, another one of my favorite authors. It's to be published in March. Boy, does that look like the cover of a romance novel, or what? If I wasn't already a fan, I'd walk right on by this cover in a bookstore!

I can see both and yep the second one just screams " Bodice ripper!"

Oh how disappointing to see the Deanna Raybourn cover! I wonder what she thinks of it (do you ever read her blog?). I love her books, and the covers on the first two books were okay--they seemed Victorian mystery-ish, but I have to say this one is really pretty awful. I'll still read it, but maybe I won't take it to work and read it in public!

Love the Pretty in Plaid cover. And the Raybourn? Ewwww. If I wasn't familiar with the author I wouldn't even pick that one up to read the blub in a bookstore. What were they thinking?

Jennifer Lancaster is one of my favorite new authors. I am really looking forward to reading "Pretty in Plaid," but wish it was being released earlier than May 2009!

Love, love love Deanna Raybourn's books. I think she got majorly shafted on the cover of this one but I'm still buying it and have a feeling I'll be recommending it to all my friends. Sometimes I wonder what the heck publishers were thinking!

Yeah, it does look like the bodice is set to get shredded.

I love the sock cover! But then, I love socks in general, so I'm a bit biased ;)

Second one... definite bodice-ripper. Reminds me of when I bought The Other Boleyn Girl for my mom and she thought I'd bought her some trashy historical romance! I hadn't thought it was that bad until then...

Oh... I love Jen Lancaster! Her covers have been so cool, though this new one may be my favorite! I love green and pink together. It fits preppy Ms. Lancaster to a T too!
